[TheList] Radio Shack slow motion collapse sounds like a firm in NZ

DS has certainly morphed over a period of time into a Retail Chain that provides overpriced TV's, Printer Cartridges, Smart Phones & other consumer junk, mixed in with Floor Staff who know very little - to nothing about electronics. That was a conscious business decision made & implemented - as was providing products for sale Online too. The traditional 'Brick & Mortar' store now competes with itself Online, along with a plethora of other Online Retailers. . .

As for electronic components, JayCar are certainly an option for the hobbyist/Electronic Geek - JC resembles a lesser shade of what DSE used to be in a previous life. So too for Hobbyist Nuts [ I say that with much love & affection ] Online + Google are your bestest friends, with many/any electronic components & parts available from suppliers around the World.

The question is now:

1] How would you like to pay for that?

2] Would you like that delivered by drone?

3] How long can you wait for your order to arrive from Helsinki?

Cheers.

I remember when "Dick Smith Electronics" actually sold electronic components and their "Funway" kits... They used to be hobbyist, now they're just like any brick and mortar store. What defined them is no more! Funny though, Jaycar seem to have all the hobbyist stuff. I wonder if The Warehouse would have also stocked what you were after?

However I wonder if what they said was BS. DSE at Te Awa, The Base in Hamilton here had their shelves stocked and hardly empty back mid Jan. Though I haven't been to the ones in the central city yet to see their stock levels.

I went to DSE a few weeks ago to get a 10 pack of DVD-R discs

They had 5 single ones and that was all.

Next visit for a BNC right angle plug to aerial cable for my scanner aerial, they no

longer stock them.Did not have any straight ones as well.

Lastly was in their for a single mono earpiece for my scanner as the cable broke,

they no longer have them, To cap it off they said go the the Jaycar agent. So i did

and they had a choice of 2 brands.

Then i commented on why is the DSE shelves are all bare and all stock moved to the front.

The excuse was the post xmas stock replacement is very late.

i told them that i probably would not be back in the store for quite some time.

How have the group found the demise during their visits.
