Hi Kevin,

On receivers such as scanners using 75 ohm coax such as RG6 has some
real advantages. Mainly less loss in longer runs. Disadvantages are many
but not usually a big deal. The hardest thing is finding suitable
connectors in a lot of cases.

You can even use 75 ohm coax on transmitters instead of 50 ohm coax, so
long as you are using a half wavelength multiple it acts as an impedance
repeater and won't cause huge VSWR issues.

Oh by the way, with a receiver the loss with the two transitions from 50
to 75 and then 75 to 50 is usually way less than the additional signal
obtained by the lower loss in the 75 ohm cable.

Best of all, 75 ohm cable is usually way cheaper.

Regards,

Neill.
