[TheList] Encrypted radio

Hi folks,

I'm new to the list, so would like to apologise if these questions are a) dumb, and b) out of order.

I realise it's illegal (and virtually impossible/impracticable) to decrypt an encrypted Police transmission, but is it possible to identify where an encrypted (in this case Police) transmission took place?  Does such a thing as triangulation work, or would the use of repeaters mean it would be able to pinpoint where the radio was used?  Would it be possible to write a programme that would identify when a number of different radios were used in a relatively small location?
