[TheList] Interesting P25 info

Looking at the Tait site they have released non-encrypted P25 radios. Would
it be a stretch to think those were aimed at other services considering the
cost would be lower?
They could have structured the P25 system to give them confidentiality with
encryption AND non-encrypted channels for use when needed (maybe they have),
as other services globally have done when faced with the lag issues.
Also noted they seem to have dropped any information about supporting 3DES
encryption (slower) form the Tait site. Just mentions DES and AES. Its also
looking like the safety margin on AES is getting increasingly

Yes, in time this will happen, but I expect the migration will be at
least 5 years away from what I heard.
It seems this government doesn't seem to think Fire and Ambulance are
high priorities for encryption. I got the impression they are in no
hurry to complete the Police either.
Scanning as we know it is going to change dramatically. Lets continue to
enjoy it whilst we can.
It's going to be a big change for the police too. They gain secure
communications and not having to worry about eavesdropping criminal
element. They loose a group of people who in some ways act as eyes and
ears for them. Unfortunately they also gain the inherent digital delays
in transmissions and the subsequent increased potential for collisions
in their communications.
Lets hope it all works out ok for them.
Regards,
Neill.
