Hi Mike

Definition of MIP's.

When the number of calls being received by the Communications Centre exceeds
what can be handled under normal circumstances, an Operational Plan known as
'Multiple Incident Procedure' shall take effect.

Occurrences likely to lead to multiple incident procedure are:

. Adverse weather, including tornadoes and heavy rain.

. Guy Fawkes Night fires.

. Civil Defence emergencies.

An attempt shall be made to dispatch at least one appliance to each call.
During multiple incidents it is likely that the number of calls will exceed
the appliances available. Priority shall be given to calls involving life,
then property. Others will have to wait until a suitable response is
available.

Radio Messages Reduction of radio traffic

Upon declaration of MIPs, the Shift Manager shall ensure that all turnouts
are transmitted via pager only.

The only radio messages required during MIPs will be:

. MSU status messages ( Includes Arrival Messages)

. Assistance messages

. Stop messages

NO Situation Report (SitRep) messages are to be used.

Note: ROUTINE and PRIORITY buttons must be used to make contact with the
Comcen.

On those occasions where a multi-pump response occurs during MIPs a verbal
arrival message (in addition to the standard MSU status) is to be
transmitted. This is to advise responding appliances of incident conditions,
and requires no acknowledgement from the Comcen.

Subject: [TheList] MIPS??

Hi Guys,
A few times in the last couple of weeks, the Comms centre in ChCh has
implemented MIPS (Multiple Incident Protocol System).
Can someone that is currently with the Fire Service please define this
protocol.
There was no such thing as this when I was in the Fire Service.
Reason I ask this is because there has been another decent earthquake in
Christchurch and there are pumps all over the place attending to
PFA systems that have been triggered by the shaking.

Cheers,
Mike T.
