Not sure if you got a reply about this or not... 

However, if you can get the phone to understand modem commands, 
(atd atdt at&w and the like)

You can run a tool in linux called Smstools --
I believe that there is a windows port, but I am not sure how it works, 
or what its stability is like.

I have a GSM modem that connects to the computers serial port, and it
works well.
