They are still using Kiwirail's E-band network for some communications but<br>
I believe they have digital radios onboard as well, although I don't know<br>
what system.<br>
The traffic on E-band seems to be mainly advisory in nature - speed<br>
restrictions, drivers advising TC of hazards/people on or near the tracks,<br>
requesting a light (signal) for right of way especially for entering or<br>
leaving the yards, requesting permission to reset and continue after an<br>
overspeed condition and so on.<br>
