Hello, 

I have always been curious as to why paging networks always transmitted the periodic test page.

Does anyone know what it was for, was it monitored, was it part of the paging standard? 
Did the telcos have a decoder that had an and gate where if one was sent and one was received the network was OK - but if one was not received there was a problem? 
Did they have one at every paging site to report back possible issues?
