Just to clear things up a bit for you grant Grant

The “stubby” antennas are for the UHF cross band, these can be either analogue or digital dependant on the radio configuration.

The VHF digital whips are 535mm in length and the VHF Analogue whips are almost twice the size at 949mm.

If you get close enough you will see some coloured heat shrink on the whips with a coloured square next to the antenna base.

Green - Analogue VHF, Red - Analogue UHF, Blue - Digital VHF & Yellow - Digital UHF

Hope this help.

Regards

Brendan

Subject: [TheList] Callsign

Hello all,

Just to confirm the callsigns you were hearing on the Dunedin channels when they were linked to the Canterbury Rural analogue channels last week were AvSec 3 and AvSec4 - Aviation Security Service playing at being police because they have little to do at the airports.

As regards the digital district vehicles going in to an analogue district I think you will find most vehicles are fitted with analogue radios as well as digital and there is a switch on the console to go between them. If you look at the vehicles in a digital district most have stubby (digital) aerials and a longer analogue VHF aerial and similarly some vehicles in analogue districts also have digital aerials.

Cheers.

Grunter1.
