The following link mentions a Vital / SJ partnership to 2025 so maybe the next gen system is post 2025?

St John, Wellington Free, FENZ are doing a project lead by Police moving to a Next Generation Critical Communications network. Not just about digital radio but video and data ect. A betting man would say the digital radio side will be P25 based.

Vital developing their T3 DMR network is different technology and I doubt St John would move from analog to DMR to then move to P25 later on.

When St John move to NGCC will they be encrypted, maybe, probably ? No one really knows. Wellington Free operate on the Police WGRN in Wellington and their two talkgroups are in the clear.
