Hi Mike,

This is a detachment of USAR (South) which is part if NZL1 the Heavy USAR Team in NZ

This has been around many years and is useful for prestaging equipment for south or west deployments.

    Hi Folks,

There's just been an incident here in Ashburton that required Timaru
    USAR to attend.

They sent Timaru 8108 there as a command unit, however, this incident
required the use of "heavy rescue equipment".

Obviously, this is heavier gear than what a normal suffix -7 PRT would
carry on it, without saying too much about the actual

incident, it required that a truck driver be extricated from the vehicle.

I was not aware that there was a USAR branch attached to Timaru and that
the nearest one was in Christchurch?

Can anyone please clarify this for me?

    Thanks,

    Mike Trump,

    ZL3XD.
