[TheList] Selcal again

Hi,
I've been using the SELDEC-4, from Murray Cameron at ANZAC Comms for the last 10 or so years and it has worked faultlessly, apart from things caused by a change in computer OS's, or operator stupidity.
If you are looking to decode Fire Service Sel-Call tones, these have a 13 figure tone to them and I'm not sure that anything other than this system will decode things like this.
What does the OP intend to do with the Sel-Call data given to them, is the question I ask?
Cheers,
Mike,
ZL3XD.

Hi
Could someone improve my knowledge of Selcall and the need for hardware decoders please. Do we not have enough processing power in today’s PCs to be able to decode Selcall tones via a software option through a sound card, or is this not possible (and why)?
Welcome your input.
Regards
