[TheList] Selcal again

Hi Daryl

You’re totally correct, there is no requirement for real hardware these days. As there is more processing power in the average desktop/laptop then we use on average.

It just that no-one in NZ has written the code to do it. As NZ fire service Selcall is unique to NZ.

The one person who wrote the code, back in the late 90s used hardware, sound cards were expensive http://www.angelfire.com/super2/radio/selcalldecoding/ (You’ll see the history here)
As no one else has written code to do it (that I know of) then http://www.comms.net.nz/ Seems to be the only option still today.

Regards

Mike

Hi

Could someone improve my knowledge of Selcall and the need for hardware decoders please. Do we not have enough processing power in today’s PCs to be able to decode Selcall tones via a software option through a sound card, or is this not possible (and why)?

Welcome your input.

Regards
