[TheList] Digital Scanning

There in lies the problem, with the new digital formats (coming) on line
there is NO entry level
receiver.

Whistler and Uniden have one each but not cheap..

https://www.uniden.com/scanner/id-BCD436HP/BCD436HP_HomePatrol_Series_Scanner
https://whistlergroup.com/products/trx-1-digital-scanner-radio

How are you with a computer and a dongle to cut your teeth on

https://www.rtl-sdr.com/about-rtl-sdr/

All three are a learning curve but there are great people out there with
great ideas and support.

Uniden are sneaky with their unit as you have to buy the DMR and
PROVOICE upgrades on top of the scanner.

The website Radio Reference is way out of date with New Zealand changes
but they do you get you started.

Both Uniden and Whistler rely on the site for those in the States and
Canada with up to date files that assist with loading
the scanners for their listening pleasure... In fact for a fee the
retailers selling the scanner will program for your zip code.
All well until a site adds a new RF channel and the punters loose the
ability to track a talk group as it hits the new RF channel.

I have followed the blogs with interest and do they squeal like hell
when that happens leaving bad feed back etc.

Best one learns to do it oneself
