You should be able to use one of your old WiFi modems as an access point.

Looking for something to either plug ethernet cable or usb to create a
personal wifi hotspot - ideally that just uses my data from the vdsl
connection - want to get wifi down in the basement which can't get wifi
signal from upstairs.

I already have ethernet down there.

Any suggestions? - cheaper the better - have a couple of old wifi capable
modems laying around if they can be used, who knows
