Hi Gary,

That is a potential problem with Lithium based Batteries. Maybe the
Wouxun Batteries are fitted with a thermal fuse, but on this particular
radio the fuse was faulty? I don't know all the answers.

What is obvious is the Chinese Manufacturer has excluded a necessary
heatsink, I expect there are a number of these radios in the market
already and all owners would benefit from the simple act of adding a
heatsink to the transistor.

In any case, it seems the overheating found on this radio isn't the
normal mode of failure, so I guess the risk isn't as great as I was
concerned it may be.

Maybe other transistors are going base to emitter short not collector
emitter and this one was an unusual failure... compounded by a battery
with a defective thermal fuse? I felt obligated to seek further info &
bring the lack of a heatsink on the transistor to others attention. Now
I have further info, my concerns about these being a potential Lucifer
device are reduced.

Regards,

Neill.
