I have used acarsd 
http://www.acarsd.org/

Lots of messages, and it will even lookup the photo of the aircraft from
airliners.net (or whathave you) 
But I am not sure if some of the messages I am receiving are accurate -
but I have seen plotting on the map, but again how does one know it's
accurate :)
