Hey,
It refers to the wavelength of those frequencies. For example,
frequencies around 440MHz have a wavelength of 70cm. Around 50MHz, the
frequency has a wavelength of 6m.
It especially comes in handy in the VHF spectrum, where VHF can refer
to 50MHz or 144MHZ for radio amateurs.
