You were talking about getting your Ham ticket but had gone off the idea lately, have a look at a Program called Hamsphere, its a VOIP program that lets Ham Ops and CBers and anyone else talk over a program similar to radio but without the licence, nice bunch of guys without the hassle of license regulations
It will give you an insight to Amateur Radio and the radio  speak  without the cost

being an old time CBer and Freebander its good make the contacts again
