[TheList] New digital comms launching

Hmmm "Police communications upgrade will block eavesdroppers" reads the
headline. Don't ya think that's just not cricket?

Kinda ironic [ or comical ] remembering back when earlier generation GSM
mobiles [ SIM cards ] were virtually unhackable to snooping snoopers, e.g.
The 5-0. Yup the ugg-boot was def on the other leg back then. They [ the
fuzz ] were all grumpy and uptight about criminal elements having the upper
hand in secure communications. And what did the Police eventually get after
an eternity of whining and moaning? Yes, a nice wide-open backdoor [ SIM2
cards ] thanks to the obliging telecommunications company which will remain
nameless =)

Maybe it's just a matter of time before certain criminal elements have
things swing in their favour again, e.g. When backdoors emerge downgrading
the P25 system magically un-blocking eavesdroppers ;)

Yes I know, the skeptics amongst us are thinking, "dream on asshole, never
happen..." lol.

It seems Hutt valley will be the first to use the new comms starting this
month followed in a few weeks if successful by Wellington city, Kapiti-Mana
and then Waiararapa

This came straight from the front page of the Hutt News today.
